Felt Bar & Eatery
Two menu specials to keep your eyes on are coming up soon at this Main Street (341 S) chef-driven restaurant. After opening in Spring earlier this year, Felt has been quietly working away on evolving the menu, as well as offering a platform for our growing collection of popup operators. The next two are absolutely worth your attention.
On Sunday, September 29th, the restaurant will host a pop-up sushi night, titled “hand rolls and high balls”. Chef Brice Okubo, sushi manager at Takashi, will be on-site via his side hustle concept Sunakku. A special menu of hand rolls and sushi created by Okubo will be served alongside Japanese-inspired kitchen specials from Felt chef Travis Herbert. On the drinks side, there will be a special menu of highballs and other Japanese-inspired cocktails. James Ramirez will also be spinning apropos Japanese vinyl on top.
A little further ahead on the calendar, on November 3rd, the restaurant will host a day of the dead special. In a similar vein to the above, guest chef Cisco Garcia-Garza (also of Takashi) will bring his pop-up concept (Xolo Masa) to the restaurant. Garcia-Garza specializes in hand-ground masa which will drive many of the special dishes of the evening – again paired with kitchen and cocktail specials created by the Felt team. Ramirez too will be back with an aptly curated vinyl playlist to soundtrack the evening. Don’t miss either.
Kin Sen Thai
I recently wrote about Kin Sen making the move across Millcreek, well, here’s one more, final migration. The restaurant has now moved into the old home of Kao Thai (3011 E 3300 S) – one of my favorite former Thai eateries in the city. With the move, owner Pornpimon Prathummas has merged the two businesses into one new whole. Kin Sen Thai essentially blends the best of both of Kin Sen and Kao Thai into one menu – enjoyed on-site, to go, or via delivery platforms.
Hearth And Hill
This Park City all-occasions eatery has a new lunch special, with something new to sample Monday through Thursday. Priced at $20, diners can enjoy a three-course lunch for just $20. Specials each day include:
- Monday – H and H burger
- Tuesday – tacos
- Wednesday – hot chicken sandwich
- Thursday – roasted chicken sandwich
Each three-course lunch special begins with a starter and ends with a Hill’s Kitchen cookie.
SLC Eatery
Following news of their impending closure last month, Paul Chamberlain and Logan Crew’s creative restaurant is now entering the final stretch. As a last hurrah, they’ve thrown out the regular menu and will be cooking from scratch – each day. The business announced their last creative dash over on Instagram as follows:
“Hey beautiful people! We want to start by saying if you have dined with us the last two weeks, we love you! We thank you so much! We do have some announcements… we will be closed this Saturday night. We will be doing tasting menus only from here on out. We will be shopping for each night so this will be for the more adventurous diners as we won’t have menus set until the day of. We can take care of allergies and restrictions if you give us 24 hour notice. If you want a reservation for next week please call as our reservations will be closed on opentable. Thanks again and we love you SLC!!”
Salt Republic
Found on the ground floor of the towering Hyatt Regency, a new “family meal series” begins on September 20th. The series will continue each Friday through the end of the year beginning. The four-course family meals begin at 5.30 p.m. and are priced at $100 per person. Optional wine pairings are priced at $60.
Small bites
A few other menu specials, and interesting options that have come my way in the last few weeks…
Butcher’s Chophouse & Bar – Apres special of half-priced apps from 4.00 – 6.00 p.m. daily.
Central 9th Market – It appears as though their epically popular Monday burger special might be gone, at least for the time being. This post from the business over on Instagram suggests Monday nights might now showcase roast pork sandwiches instead. It’s not clear if this is a one-off or a more permanent change.
Courchevel Bistro – Tuesday prix-fixe menu of French onion soup, moules frites, and crème brûlée for $45. Wednesday’s special affords a dozen oysters for $26, while Thursday sees free corkage and $10 9-ounce carafes of house wine.
Dough Miner – Extended hours have hit this fun baker, the business is now open seven days a week. Coming down the hill on the menu – fresh buttermilk biscuits, custard-filled churros, giant German pretzels, and more. For the season, a fan-favorite chicken pot pie has also returned.
Habibi Grill – This well-priced lunch buffet recently came across my feeds, $13.99 seems like a steal to me. Pictured above, is their lamb shinwari karahi, one of the best dishes I tasted last year.
Melting Pot – A seasonal oktober fonduefest menu will run every day, September 23rd through October 31st. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a German-inspired menu with Bavarian beer cheese fondue as well as new items such as pretzels, bratwurst, braised short rib, Summer sausage, and more.
Rusty Taco – Adding their first-ever burrito to the menu, check out the new sunrise slammer burrito. Through October 6th this one comes with tater tots, breakfast aioli, bacon/chorizo/diced jalapeno sausage filling, and four ounces of scrambled eggs. It comes topped with both American cheese and queso fresco.
Scion Cider – The cider-focused bar will be hosting a Raclette Dinner Series special – reservations are required for this one on October 9th.
Tamarind – Here’s a new one, even for me, conquerer of countless burgers and diverse compositions – a pho burger on the menu at this downtown Vietnamese eatery.
Veneto – New Fall menu highlights include Venetian style liver, black truffle pearls, multicolored tortelli, game ragú, sous vie deer fillet, figs, and red baked pear tortino.

Hi, I’m Stuart, nice to meet you! I’m the founder, writer and wrangler at Gastronomic SLC. I’m a multiple-award winning journalist and have written in myopic detail about the Salt Lake City dining scene for the better part of seventeen years.
I’ve worked extensively with multiple local publications from Visit Salt Lake to Salt Lake Magazine, not least helped to consult on national TV. Pause those credits, yep, that’s me! I’m also a former restaurant critic of more than five years, working for the Salt Lake Tribune. I’m largely fueled by a critical obsession with rice, alliteration and the use of big words I don’t understand. What they’re saying about me: “Not inaccurate”, “I thought he was older”, “I don’t share his feelings”.
