How about this for a happy ending. Hot off the heels of recent news that Deadpan Sandwich were to shutter – news just in from the company confirms they’ll be taking a different course of action. News of their impending departure from the local dining scene seems to have spurred fans of the Woodbine food hall to descend en masse.
Taking to Instagram the company confirmed, ” A message to our customers… Wow…we have been blown away by the outpouring of love and support by you-the SIC community.
After careful consideration and working with our management team & Woodbine Food Hall, we are happy to announce that we are able to remain open and continue to serve you.
Your unwavering support has been instrumental in this decision and we sincerely thank you for showing up for us. It means the world. After tomorrow, 11/11, we will be closed next week to regroup, reset and restock and we will reopen fully on 11/21/23.”
From a personal standpoint, I couldn’t be more pleased. Deadpan arguably serve one of the very best menus of sandwiches in town. Here are a few more of my favorite sandwich picks.

Hi, I’m Stuart, nice to meet you! I’m the founder, writer and wrangler at Gastronomic SLC. I’m a multiple-award winning journalist and have written in myopic detail about the Salt Lake City dining scene for the better part of seventeen years.
I’ve worked extensively with multiple local publications from Visit Salt Lake to Salt Lake Magazine, not least helped to consult on national TV. Pause those credits, yep, that’s me! I’m also a former restaurant critic of more than five years, working for the Salt Lake Tribune. I’m largely fueled by a critical obsession with rice, alliteration and the use of big words I don’t understand. What they’re saying about me: “Not inaccurate”, “I thought he was older”, “I don’t share his feelings”.
