More than fifteen liquor licenses granted at April DABS meeting

Bar licenses

At the April DABS meeting, Jason LeCates of the Bourbon Group spoke before the commissioners, updating the panel on the ongoing work to rebuild Whiskey Street. LeCatres sought approval for an extended closure of the bar’s liquor license.

LeCates detailed some of the difficulties surrounding the engineering work underway at Whiskey Street (the building was effectively completely destroyed in downtown’s August 2025 fire). In conjunction with the property owners, the decision was taken to save as much of the original building as possible (which goes back some 110 years). In turn, this required a new steel superstructure of sorts to reinforce the remaining brickwork. Commissioners were impressed by the efforts to save, rather than entirely scrap, the site.

A license extension was eagerly approved until December this year. Here’s hoping the work goes smoothly from here on out, and we can get a looksee at Whiskey Street’s planned new rooftop patio. A reminder that commissioners now have plenary powers in this area and can approve the closure for as long as they like; previously, the powers were capped at two years.

As for new bars, only two applicants sought one of the 27 available bar licenses this month. Both of the following were duly approved:
