Owner and Executive Chef Matt Lake, responsible for downtown’s award-winning Alamexo Mexican Kitchen, has long been planning this more casual, Mexican market-style cantina. He and his staff are excited to introduce his new neighborhood gathering place where everything is served family-style in a bright casual setting. Hosting a special four-course New Year’s Eve dinner celebration from 5 until 9 p.m. chef Andy Morrison’s menu includes: an amuse bouche of chef’s specialty cheeses and crackers; iceberg wedge salad or baked potato bisque; entrée options of Niche nacho, “cheese steak” game burger; pecan crusted “fish sticks” or honey Sriracha airline chicken; and dessert selections of a double chocolate sundae or chef’s big strawberry cream puff.

Café Niche will open on New Year’s Eve for brunch from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. serving the regular menu. On New Year’s Day, Niche will be open for brunch from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., closed for dinner, and will be open again for regular business on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2017.

On Christmas Eve Café Niche will be open from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. serving their regular menu with specials from Chef Andy Morrison’s kitchen. Café Niche will be closed for Christmas Day all day to let their crew enjoy the holiday with their families, but open again for regular hours on the 26th.

Chef Alan Brines and his culinary team are excited for Current Fish & Oyster’s New Year’s Eve celebration. He’s featuring customer favorites, has added some holiday specials, and is offering the option of adding his famous seafood tower. His four-course menu is available from 4 until 10 p.m. on Dec. 31. Diners choose one selection from each course. First course options include Caputo’s burrata, crab cakes, clam chowder or oysters; Brines’ second course choices include Current’s signature house salad, apple fennel salad or a kale and beet salad. Main course selections include the unique whole branzino, lobster tail, prime rib, pan-roasted sea scallops or roasted cauliflower.

Current Fish & Oyster will be open for dinner Christmas Eve, from 4 until 8 p.m., serving the regular dinner menu plus some specials. Current will be closed on Christmas Day to allow their employees to enjoy the holidays with their families. Current will be open on New Year’s Day for dinner starting at 5 p.m.

Diners can cap off their New Year’s Eve meal with a choice of tuxedo cheesecake, poached saffron pear with vanilla cream or a delicate lemon strawberry roulade. Breakfast and lunch will be served prior to 5 p.m. New Year’s Day brunch at Oasis Cafe is also a favorite with locals. It’s loaded with traditional breakfast dishes, soups, salads and sandwiches. Brunch is ala carte and will be served from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with lighter fare served from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. Oasis Café will only be open from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Christmas Eve serving the regular brunch menu and then will be closed in the evening and on Christmas Day to allow their employees to enjoy the holidays with their families.

Powder’s special New Year’s Eve dinner starts with a selection of lobster cocktail or Vertical Farms baby lettuces, followed by mushroom consommé. Children also get their own four-course meal, starting with an amuse bouche of almond butter and white-grape caviar, then opening courses of mini iceberg salad and tomato bisque with grilled cheese. For a main choice, pick between classic steak-frites or salmon, and, best of all, a vanilla ice cream sundae for dessert.

I’ve worked extensively with multiple local publications from Visit Salt Lake to Salt Lake Magazine, not least helped to consult on national TV.   Pause those credits, yep, that’s me!
