Avenues Proper – Stay tuned for more details on a unique tasting event at Avenues Proper. As we’ve mentioned before, Avenues Proper keeps a beer cellar, from which several small samples were first released in December 2014.
The restaurant has now reached the point where they can offer a true vertical tasting dinner of cellared brews. For their very first event they have chosen Elder Brett from Epic Brewing. On Wednesday, February 25th Avenues Proper will host a very limited 3 course event, showcasing EPIC’s Elder Brett #2, #3, and #5. These beers, while all the same recipe, have very distinct qualities due to aging. Each beer will be paired with a small plate designed specifically for that vintage.
This will be a reservation only event limited to about 22 people, and will include the head brewer of EPIC, Kevin Crompton, as well as his old apprentice Rio Connelly (current Avenues Proper brewer) to talk about the nuances of each vintage. Chef Justin Soelberg will also be there to discuss the food pairings. More details to follow as we receive them!

The Café will offer live music on Sunday from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. and all other evenings from 8:30 – 10:30 p.m. There is no entrance fee and it’s open to the public, but seating is limited. Conveniently located between the two main Salt Lake Festival theatre venues of Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center and Broadway Centre Cinemas, the Café is the perfect place for filmmakers and festival goers to relax and discuss the films.
“The Café is a perfect place to continue your conversations after a film and the extended hours will be popular with the later crowd,” said Michael Mack, V.P. of Services for Visit Salt Lake.
The Cafe will be open Sundays until 9 p.m., Monday through Wednesday until 10 p.m., until 11 p.m. on Thursday and until 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Sicilia Pizza Kitchen’s menu of appetizers, subs, salads, gourmet pizzas and calzones complements a full roster of bottle and draft beers and liquors.

* Gastronomic SLC is a proud local partner of Vine Lore.
Hi, I’m Stuart, nice to meet you! I’m the founder, writer and wrangler at Gastronomic SLC. I’m a multiple-award winning journalist and have written in myopic detail about the Salt Lake City dining scene for the better part of seventeen years.
I’ve worked extensively with multiple local publications from Visit Salt Lake to Salt Lake Magazine, not least helped to consult on national TV. Pause those credits, yep, that’s me! I’m also a former restaurant critic of more than five years, working for the Salt Lake Tribune. I’m largely fueled by a critical obsession with rice, alliteration and the use of big words I don’t understand. What they’re saying about me: “Not inaccurate”, “I thought he was older”, “I don’t share his feelings”.
