Salt Lake Magazine Cocktail Contest – The drinks have been downed and the votes are in, now it’s time to pick a winner. And, er, drink a bit more. This Sunday, join Salt Lake Magazine and a whos who of local mixology at Pierpoint Place as the month long Farm To Glass cocktail contest is sent off with a night long toast.

The winner of the contest will be announced amidst a night of cocktails, music and snacks from Creminelli’s, Nicholas & Company and Cakes de Fleur. Last years event (pictures here) was a blast and well worth the entrance fee.

This year should be no different, the $25 advance ticket fee is well worth it ($35 day of event). The party runs 6.30 – 9.00 p.m. (October 9th) and guests will have the opportunity to taste every creation. If you’re not imbibing, designated driver tickets are $15 per person too.

Tickets can be purchased online here.

winos-for-wildlife-event

Winos For Wildlife – If you can’t wait till Sunday to flex your philanthropic muscles, the preceding evening (Saturday, October 15th) is this years Winos For Wildlife event, supporting Hogle Zoo.

The concept is fairly simple: drink wine, save wildlife! The “Safari chic” conservation fundraiser is held at the historic Alta Club where guests will enjoy a unique wine tasting/tapas event held in conjunction with an art and photography auction. Explore five wines in a blind tasting representing vintners from around the globe as well as small bite food pairings prepared by executive chef Don Heidel – who will be crafting “bold flavors in the spirit of African safari cuisine”.

Tickets are priced $75/person prior to October 15th, $85/person at the door. More info can be found over at www.hoglezoo.org/winosforwildlife

Riedel tasting wine dinner

Riedel Wine Dinner – Finally, and looking ahead to November, an interesting event that caught my eye. Over at the Salt Lake Culinary Center on November 15th (6-8 p.m.) is a wine pairing event with a difference.

Join Riedel (of superior glassware fame) ambassador Doug Reed for an evening with a twist. Reed will demonstrate the relationship between the shape of a wine glass and the drinker’s perception and enjoyment of different varietals. Attendees will experience first-hand the ways in which the appropriate stemware fully delivers the bouquet, taste, balance, and finish of a wine to the senses, and will leave the evening with their own four-glass Riedel tasting kit, valued at $120. A delicious and amazing dinner will be served too. The cost? $99.
