Mark that date in your calendar now – doubly and, indeed, triply so if you’re looking for a little holiday table inspiration that lands on the cheesier side. On October 16th (6.30 p.m. – 9.30 p.m.), a quartet of chefs will compete to create the best cheesy holiday dish, using Cache Valley Creamery’s award-winning products as their muse.
The interactive event held at South Salt Lake’s Salt Lake Culinary Education (2233 S. 300 E.) will see Santo Taco’s Alfonso Brito line up alongside Chris Holbrook (Salt Lake Culinary Institute), Alex Daniels (LUX Catering & Events), as well as talent from Saffron Valley’s kitchen. Guests attending the CVC Showdown (ages 18+) will get to watch the cooking action unfold before their eyes, sample bites from each competitor, and finally vote on a winning dish. The holiday season (it’s coming up quicker than you think!) cooking inspiration is the cherry on top.
Tickets for the October 16th event are priced at just $40 and come with a few more treats, namely:
- Cheese and charcuterie board
- Cache Valley bites and appetizers
- Non-alcoholic cocktails designed to pair with cheese
Cache Valley Creamery itself needs little introduction, with a history as rich as its product. Established almost ninety years ago, the creamery’s founder was immediately inspired by Cache Valley and its remarkable resemblance to his native Switzerland. Decades later, the celebrated company produces everything from smooth mozzarella to squeaky curds – all with a focus on real milk and trusted ingredients; you can find their products all over Utah.
The event also goes beyond bragging rights and bites. It’s an opportunity to support Girls on the Run Utah, with a portion of the event proceeds going to support their upcoming 5K Celebration in November.
Organisers for the event are expecting a sell-out for this one, so act fast if you want to see and sample the action. Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite.

Hi, I’m Stuart, nice to meet you! I’m the founder, writer and wrangler at Gastronomic SLC. I’m a multiple-award winning journalist and have written in myopic detail about the Salt Lake City dining scene for the better part of seventeen years.
I’ve worked extensively with multiple local publications from Visit Salt Lake to Salt Lake Magazine, not least helped to consult on national TV. Pause those credits, yep, that’s me! I’m also a former restaurant critic of more than five years, working for the Salt Lake Tribune. I’m largely fueled by a critical obsession with rice, alliteration and the use of big words I don’t understand. What they’re saying about me: “Not inaccurate”, “I thought he was older”, “I don’t share his feelings”.
