Paninis to pretzels – what Utah’s food writers have been covering this month

Mensho SLC - ramen (Gastronomic SLC)

Ted Scheffler runs the rule over the opening of the much-touted Mensho (Central 9th). Here’s my own first look from a few weeks ago as well. Scheffler also recaps one of Urban Hill’s (Central 9th) collab dinners and talks about Purple Sky Winery. Amanda Rock pens this piece on Vertical Deli (South Salt Lake) for Utah Stories as well.

Lydia Martinez checks in at Bambara (SLC) and talks to chef JV Hernandez. Like me in this piece, Martinez was wowed by the Hernandez’s technique-driven menu – sadly, I have to report that the chef has now moved on to pastures new.

Martinez also writes about Viva Chicken (St. George), Dangerous Pretzel (Post District), Cafe Niche, Melancholy (Central 9th), and La Diabla Pozole y Mezcal (Denver). Fellow writer Darby Doyle, writes up Strada (SLC) with colleagues Heather Hayes, hitting the downtown Farmers Market, and Spencer Windes rounding up spots in Kamas.

Over in the City Weekly, Alex Springer stops by Napoli’s Italian Restaurant (Midvale), Junah (Central 9th), Sunday’s Best (Post District), Burgers By Guayoyo (Millcreek), SV Cafe (West Jordan), and Strada (SLC).

On the local Axios site, Kim Bojorquez stops in at De Los Muertos (Sugar House), Erin Alberty makes it down to Kura Revolving Sushi (Sugar House), and also waxes lyrical on Beijing Restaurant (Sugar House).

What else? Val Phillips welcomes Weller’s Bistro to their new spot (Ogden) whilst also looking at their history to date. Katie Hatzfeld of the Park Record talks to chef Jordan Harvey, FOX13 drops by Scion Cider (Central 9th), Mariah Maynes of KSL samples Strada (SLC), and James Bennett of Slug hits up Ramblin’ Roads (Various).

Lastly, in the journal series of local publications, Perri Kinder talks about Beast From The East (Holladay), and North Italia (Riverton), and Katherine Weinstein details The Pines / Montauk Bistro (Draper).
