South Salt Lake brewpub undergoes major menu change

Grid City Brewing

I’m betting many of us spent the last weeks of ’24 plotting for transformed new beginnings. Grid City was apparently at it too – cooking up something remarkably invigorating for the New Year. Entering 2025, the South Salt Lake (333 W 2100 S) brewer has thrown out the entirety of its previous menu offering, instead inviting the fabulous Chinese/Taiwanese cuisine of Drunken Kitchen to replace it.

The work of brothers Tim and Joe Rammell, Drunken Kitchen’s move is a modest one in terms of geography at least – up until this year, the duo was working out of neighboring South Salt Lake Square Kitchen Eatery (2435 S. State). For my money, it’s an especially exciting update, and completely unexpected at that.

Drunken Kitchen’s fried chicken is some of the best in the state, no question. I waxed lyrical in this story last year. The menu until now has been modest in size, but who knows, the roomier digs might give some scope for evolution and expansion. Not that it’s needed mind you, there’s a lot to love about the Rammell’s menu. Other recommendations from me include their scald-your-mouth-senseless-hot pork buns, and mapo tofu – available both with pork and also a vegan option.

Speaking of vegan cuisine, many will note that prior iterations of Grid City’s menu catered extensively to those on plant-based diets. Looking at posts from the two businesses following the update, it looks like this will be set to continue.

Blue Fish

After fifteen years in the business, this South Jordan sushi spot has decided to also radically rework its menu. The family-owned business has updated its menu to an all-you-can-eat model. The change started on January 1st.

The newly updated AYCE is offered at several price points, with a premium offering affording some more select bites. Check out this Instagram video by the always brutally honest Pho King who notes the various restrictions one some of the menu items, and gives the overall update the thumbs up.

Felt Bar & Eatery

A house-made ice cream program has begun at Felt – a restaurant that was handily my favorite new opening in 2024. Bartender Darren Witkowski is behind this new addition, which means, you guessed it – ice cream cocktails. Options include:

  • Lime gelato daiquiri, house lime gelato, neisson rhum, lime oleo
  • Fernet float, fernet branca, house cola ice cream, house soda water
  • Affogato-tini, house vanilla ice cream with our espresso martini served on the side, poured over tableside
  • Dessert option – pumpkin cheesecake, Jameson chocolate ganache, graham cracker crust, nutmeg chantilly cream and rotating house-made ice cream (currently miso honey)

Hill’s Kitchen

Per their Facebook post, the Park City business will be offering a unique sushi menu at the end of the month. The business writes, “We’re thrilled to announce our first-ever Sushi Pop-Up at Hill’s Kitchen! On January 31st and February 1st, enjoy a brand-new Asian-inspired menu from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Don’t miss this exclusive pop-up experience, crafted by our incredibly talented Culinary Director, Eric Hill. We can’t wait to see you there!”
