Recapping the latest coverage of Utah food and drink

Marcato Kitchen - chef Kyle Williams (Gastronomic SLC)

In the City Weekly Alex Springer tackles a quintet of names, including one of my favorites – Marcato Kitchen (SLC). Chef Kyle Williams’s (pictured top) take on traditional strombolis was one of my favorite dining experiences in 2024. I wrote about William’s approach in this story back in May. Springer also checks in on Kuchu Shabu (Sugar House), A Lo Maracucho (various), Halgatteok (South Salt Lake), and Lupessa (downtown SLC).

Ted Scheffler also has five names for your consideration: Roots Cafe (Millcreek), Loma (Park City), Sushi Blue (Park City), Mom’s Kitchen (south Salt Lake), and Per Noi Trattoria (Sugar House); while colleague Nicole Anderson tells the multi-decade Millie’s Burgers.

In the SL Mag Lydia Martinez has her sights set on Matteo’s (downtown SLC) brunch service, before geeking out on Deadpan Sandwich (SLC) and their Italian beef sandwich. A trio of articles from Slug Mag in this roundup with Rachel Brooks heading to Felt Bar & Eatery (downtown SLC), Christian Ledek detailing Burgertory (West Valley City), and Pace Gardner tackling Taqueria La Palapa (Murray).

A few other one-off pieces include Valerie Phillips’s story on Rovali’s, Jordan Thornbland rounding up several pie names (various), Katy Hatzfeld detailing the new Spitz in Summit County (Park City), and Meredith Gustman running the rule over Montage’s four-figure burger (Deer Valley). In national press Gary Stern covers Feldman’s Deli (Millcreek), and Merlyn Miller heads to WildKitchen (Wanship).

On the screen, ABC4 features Drunken Kitchen (South Salt Lake), and Senor Pollo (various) – while Taste Utah stops in on The Coop By Roosters, STK (downtown SLC), and Bambara (downtown SLC). Lastly, FOX13 head to one of the newest bars in town – Melancholy (SLC).
