Which hard seltzers are now legal in Utah grocery stores?

You might recall we recently recapped all the updates to Utah’s liquor laws that came into force this June. You might also recall the headline news about the loss of tens and tens of hard seltzer brands from stores across Utah. Essentially, as the definition of beer changed this year, so did the compliance of many popular brands. What you might have wondered then, what products are actually now legal on Utah grocery and convenience store shelves?

Well, after being tipped off by the always in the know Ben Winslow (seriously, does that guy ever sleep!) I reached out to the DABS for formal confirmation. The team graciously sent me the following, “a list of approved seltzer products for sale in grocery and convenience stores,” according to DABS comms director Michelle Schmitt. She also went on to explain:

“The list will grow and change as we receive additional applications from product makers, and we anticipate it will grow by a few products by the end of the month. The DABS will update the list monthly. Below is the current list of approved seltzers for OP distribution.”

A final note for all you hard seltzer fans bemoaning a favorite’s disappearance – retail outlets have been extended a grace period, allowing them to sell any non compliant seltzers they still have on hand. For their part the DABS are working with retailers to help ease the transition. Schmitt confirmed, “our staff will begin checking private retail stores early fall to get a soft assessment on where things are [in regards non compliant sellers still in the wild – editor], and will conduct full audits to ensure noncompliant items are not being sold starting on November 1st. “
