The polls for the Park City Area Restaurant Association annual Summer Cocktail Contest are now open. All month long, drink enthusiasts will be able to rate libations on a 1-to-10 scale, based on taste and presentation. Online voting will run through July 31 on the PCARA website, www.parkcityrestaurants.com.
More than a dozen local bars and restaurants have already signed up: Blind Dog, Billy Blanco’s, Deer Valley-Royal Street Café, Ghidotti’s, Grappa, High West, Red Rock, Silver Star Café, Silver, Squatters, St. Regis and Zoom. Each establishment donated a $50 gift certificate to the PCARA to give away on the group’s Facebook page – be sure to keep logging on for a chance to win.
“Online voting gives all PCARA members a chance to participate, driving business to each establishment and giving guests the opportunity to cast a vote,” PCARA executive director Ginger Ries said. “We are very excited to see how the contest unfolds, and we can’t wait to crown the winner.”
Previously, the PCARA’s cocktail contests contest took place for just one night only, at a venue in downtown Park City where a panel of guest judges would select the winning libation from just 16 participating venues. Under the new format, the contest takes place over nearly four weeks, and opens voting to everyone, not only allowing residents and visitors alike to play a greater role in crowning Park City’s summer cocktail champion, but also giving them even more reason to visit the participating bars and restaurants, sampling the entries before casting their votes.
“Any PCARA bar and restaurant can enter, and any patron can vote,” Ries said. “We think this approach works out really well for both our members and for all their guests — and we’re especially looking forward to tasting each of the entries.”
The winning cocktail and its creator will be featured in a marketing campaign following the contest leading into PCARA’s popular Fall “Dine About” event. He or she will also walk away with $200 and, in a town with more than 30 top-notch bars and restaurants, some serious bragging rights.

Hi, I’m Stuart, nice to meet you! I’m the founder, writer and wrangler at Gastronomic SLC. I’m a multiple-award winning journalist and have written in myopic detail about the Salt Lake City dining scene for the better part of seventeen years.
I’ve worked extensively with multiple local publications from Visit Salt Lake to Salt Lake Magazine, not least helped to consult on national TV. Pause those credits, yep, that’s me! I’m also a former restaurant critic of more than five years, working for the Salt Lake Tribune. I’m largely fueled by a critical obsession with rice, alliteration and the use of big words I don’t understand. What they’re saying about me: “Not inaccurate”, “I thought he was older”, “I don’t share his feelings”.
