Fun foodie events on the calendar ahead

August 24th, 5.00 p.m.

This three-course meal will feature the restaurant’s “favorite farms and ingredients this time of year. Featuring Brigham City peaches, heirloom tomatoes, squash, and corn from our farm partners: Parker Farms and Keep it Real Vegetables.” The price for the event is $45 for food and $30 for wine pairings. The menu is as follows:

  • Panzanella Salad, peaches, red onion, heirloom tomatoes, cucumber, toasted sourdough croutons, arugula, and butter bib mix, and smoked pepper vinaigrette

Utah Night Market

August 29th and 30th

Promoters for this event tell me that “The Utah Night Market is the first night market in Salt Lake City. Night markets highlight street foods from all different types of Asian cuisines. Guests can discover new foods and try new Asian dishes. There will also be exclusive food vendors coming from Phoenix, Arizona, such as character bao from Hot Bamboo.”

Held at Jordan Park (1000 South 900 West) a number of local vendors will be appearing, including:

  • Kitty’s Family Dumpling – handmade pot stickers (pork, beef, or chicken), steamed bao (pork, red beans), steamed soup dumpling (pork), steamed vegan bao
  • Salt Suburban Kitchen – Friday only – birria potstickers, pork leek potstickers, butter chicken on brioche (gluten-free option), gourmet burger, cubano bao, brisket-loaded fries
  • Portena Food Truck – gourmet empanadas (beef, chicken, spinach, caprese, bacon & cheese, pulled pork BBQ, banana & Nutella, apple strudel
  • Bumble Bees KBBQ – K-pop fries, Korean bahn mi, bibimbap, pot stickers, noodle poppers
  • Happy Tummie – Saturday only – Japanese fried chicken, Japanese grilled chicken, shrimp tempura, Japanese fried tofu
  • Haole T’s – beer battered fish and chips, blackened buttery crab roll, smoked kalua pork rice bowl, shoyu chicken rice bowl, shoyu beef bowl, Cali burrito
  • Nana’s Sonoran Hot Dog

Vendors from Phoenix will also be in attendance as follows:

  • Takoyaki – Japanese crispy dumplings
  • Wabeebee – foreign snacks
  • Taiyaki – Japanese fish-shaped cake with different fillings

Post District’s annual end-of-summer block party gets a bold new flavor with the debut of Urban Roundup, happening Friday, August 29, from 5–8 p.m. The whole district will come alive with free bites, Western-themed fun, live music, and a chance to explore one of Salt Lake’s most exciting new neighborhoods.

Expect family-friendly activities, high-energy entertainment, and complimentary tastings from some of SLC’s most buzzed-about restaurants, bars, and coffee spots. A portion of proceeds and donations from the event will support a great cause–a local nonprofit’s therapeutic horseback riding program, Hoofbeats to Healing. Highlights include:

  • A progressive culinary walk through the district with complimentary bite-sized samples and sips from top restaurants, bars, and coffee shops, including Urban Hill, Sunday’s Best, Dangerous Pretzel, Level Crossing, Melancholy Wine & Cocktail Lounge, Urban Sailor, and more.
  • An exclusive VIP experience, with a $10 ticket benefiting The Straighter Way Foundation’s Hoofbeats to Healing program – offering access to elevated tastings, complimentary beverages, and a VIP swag bag.

It’s Not Oktoberfest

September 6th – October 12th, noon – 5.00 p.m.

Running Saturdays and Sundays over a six-week period, this new event at Brighton Resort will feature food contests, live music, beer collabs, and more. The headline ‘foodie wars’ will benefit the Utah Food Bank and see the resort’s exec chef, Jeffrey Sanich (and team) take on all comers from the Utah Culinary community. The schedule is as follows:

  • Week 1 (Sept 6–7) – Best Brisket in Utah Throwdown featuring Brighton pit master Dan McAllister’s brisket
  • Week 2 (Sept 13–14) – Fried Chicken Sandwich Invitational
  • Week 3 (Sept 20–21) – The Banh Mi Brawl
  • Week 4 (Sept 27–28) – Best Pie in Utah Challenge
  • Week 5 (Oct 4–5) – Mac & Cheese Meltdown
  • Week 6 (Oct 11–12) – Utah Ski Resort Chili Cook-Off

The resort is also teaming up with local breweries to offer unique small-batch creations and collaborations made exclusively for the event. A new featured beer will debut each weekend. The best beers from each weekend will be featured on the final weekend of Not Oktoberfest to determine which one the crowd liked best.

September 20th

A five-course meal will be served for this Bring Your Own Wine event. Cost is $200 per person, menu is as follows:

  • Cocoa spice venison carpaccio, dandelion greens, salted olives, golden raisins
  • Spaghetti amatriciana, pancetta, pork cheek, heirloom tomatoes, pecorino
  • Niman Ranch porchetta, Swiss chard, parmesan, local pums, red wine reduction
  • Grilled ribeye, rosemary, black Summer truffles, farm goods
  • Ritual Chocolate trio, pavlova, chocolate milkshake, truffle
