If you’re anything like me, the acronyms LAX, ORD, LHR or JFK fill you with a certain type of special dread. If that’s the case I’m betting the phrase SLC probably has you feeling pretty relaxed. I for one always appreciate SLC’s relatively no fuss attitude with efficient flight schedules and calm terminals. All that said, dining quality has never been the greatest feature of SLC International, its been downright dismal in truth.
All that changed in the last month though. “Taste Elevated” was the slogan on everyone’s lips last Thursday, as HMSHost formally unveiled a slew of new SLC airport restaurants. Best of all, the focus was on local businesses doing what they do best. Check out this list of recent local additions to SLC international: Salt Lake City Pizza & Pasta, High West Distillery & Saloon, Café Rio Mexican Grill, Mill Creek Coffee Roasters, Vivace by Cucina Toscana, Greek Souvlaki and Market Street Grill.
I’ve got my eyes squarely set on Greek Souvlaki and their delicious dolamathes and gyro – or maybe a wee tipple from High West. It might well be the first time I look forward to dining at the SLC airport.

Hi, I’m Stuart, nice to meet you! I’m the founder, writer and wrangler at Gastronomic SLC. I’m a multiple-award winning journalist and have written in myopic detail about the Salt Lake City dining scene for the better part of seventeen years.
I’ve worked extensively with multiple local publications from Visit Salt Lake to Salt Lake Magazine, not least helped to consult on national TV. Pause those credits, yep, that’s me! I’m also a former restaurant critic of more than five years, working for the Salt Lake Tribune. I’m largely fueled by a critical obsession with rice, alliteration and the use of big words I don’t understand. What they’re saying about me: “Not inaccurate”, “I thought he was older”, “I don’t share his feelings”.
