Take a small detour before arriving in St. George in the town just before, Cedar City and visit IG Winery (part of the Utah Wine Trail) and have a meal at the award-winning café, Brick House. Serving up classics like the French dip sandwich and hamburgers, they grind their meat in house so it is always fresh, and they also have an all you can eat salad bar, remember those? Try the sweet potato fries dipped in caramel, (they are known for this tasty trick) or if you are feeling extra adventurous give the Brick Challenge a go-three burgers piled high plus two pounds of fresh cut fries.

This is not your average hotel restaurant by any means. Wood.Ash.Rye showcases the award-winning talents of executive chef Shon Foster and chef de cuisine Doug Gerpheide who bring a thoughtfully curated menu focusing on seasonal and local ingredients perfectly executed. The creativity radiates on each plate, most of which are sharable so you can try many. The pork belly with watermelon is a crowd favorite for good reason, it’s a party for you palate with a combination of sweet and savory that makes it the stuff of cravings. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, you can’t go wrong ordering the house made biscuits for every meal.

The line is probably going to be long at Farmstead, but don’t fret, it moves fast and it is worth it. Even if you are there for a breakfast item, be sure to get a sweet treat for later, or at least until you make your way to the car. The European-style bakery has something to suit everyone’s fancy, from croissant breakfast sandwiches to donuts, cupcakes to pizza.

Sanchez Mexican Food

A bit off the beaten path, this fast-casual haunt has been serving up authentic Mexican cuisine since 2014. The impressive menu presents a fiesta of flavors with an  assortment of Mexican culinary delights ranging from tacos, burritos, sopas, and tamales. Each dish is an experience in traditional flavors with hearty portions.

Rylu’s Bistro

Situated in a historic home that is traced back to the 1870’s in Santa Clara, with seating for about 20 patrons, this husband and wife team and wait staff of one is offering a small menu with scratch made foods. You’ll find a fish option, a vegetarian option, a beef and a chicken entrée but be sure to start with the house made focaccia bread and cheese board. Save room for a homemade dessert at well, the perfect capper to a perfect meal. Rylu’s is open for dinner only, Tuesday-Saturday. Reservations recommended.

Bonus points – where to stay. This boutique hotel (pictured top) is located right in the heart of St. George and is home to the award-winning restaurant, Wood. Ash. Rye. The interiors are a modern twist on a Western theme, with a warm and welcoming lobby and homey guest rooms with added touches. The rooftop deck has plenty of outdoor seating, a firepit and a hot tub for those who want to take in the views while relaxing.
